Volunteer Opportunities

Hightower Trail PTSA encourages parents and grandparents to get involved in their student's education.  Whether you have one hour a year or one day each week, the investment of your time and talent will reap benefits for students for years to come.  Take a moment and view the opportunities currently listed below, check back often as we will keep them updated as the year progresses.  If you can help, please either complete the form online or give one of your Husky PTSA Officers or Committee Chairs a call - it's time well spent!
Arts in Education - Help with arts related special programs such as Night of the Arts, Reflections and Honoring our Heroes.

Community Outreach - assist with projects throughout the school year that help others in our community.  Example - Food Collection, Books, Winter Coats.
  • Warm Up - Year round collection of winter coats in front lobby collection bin need to be taken to Must Ministries in Marietta as the box fills.  Time Varies.
Eighth Grade Dance - Assist with planning, decorating and hospitality of our annual dance.
  • Join the committee that meets in the Spring of 2012 to plan the dance. 
  • Grab a friend and join the PTSA to help decorate the gymnasium on Monday and Tuesday prior to the dance. 
  • Good Cook?  Join the hospitality tean and prepare finger foods for the dance and deliver to the school.
Environmental Education/Earth Week - recycling and environmental projects to include earth week.
  • Clean Air Campaign - Chair this committee and host/organize two walk to school events, October 3rd and April 11, 2012.  Hand out prizes, create flyers, etc.
  • Recycling - Ongoing committment throughout the year to monitor the recycling bins in the bus parking and contact the recycling company
Gardening - Assist with maintenance of the green spaces around the school.
  • Maintain Cherokee Star in front drive seasonally with pruning, clearing.
  • Weeding/Maintaining 7th Grade Garden
  • Landscaping & Clearing on Nature Trail & Green Spaces
Health/Youth Services - Assist with health related activities ad projects throughout the year.
  • Red Ribbon Week - No to Drugs! - Help plan, organize and implement a school wide commitment to Red Ribbon initiative - October 22-29, 2011.
  • Hearing & Vision - Assist with screening, dates TBD
  • Blood Drive - schedule and organize school wide blood drive - Date TBD
  • No Place for Hate - Assist with the implementation of this county recognized anti-bullying campaign. Year Round.
Hospitality - Various Opportunities
  • Principal's Honor Roll Receptions - November 4, March 30 and January 27
  • Teacher/Staff Luncheons - Appreciations - Year round, various.
  • Seasonal Lobby Decor - Seasonally - October (Fall), December (Winter), March (Spring)
  • Provide food (Various opportunities - contact hospitality for availability and need)
  • Set Up/Clean Up - (Various opportunities - contact hospitality for availability and need)
Literacy - Assist with projects and programs that promote literacy among our students.
  • Book Fair - Opportunities include cashier, assisting students with orders, set up and breakdown.  Shifts available throughout the day for both fall and spring fairs. 
Media Center - Assist students and support the media staff by working a three hour shift.  Training is provided.  Contact Laurie Rodriquez for details and available shifts.

Membership - Assist in promotion and distribution of membership information during membership drives, PTSA meetings and more.

Front Office Volunteer - Work a two hour shift in the front office answering the telephone, interacting with faculty and students and sorting mail.

Husky Heroes of the Hallways - Calling all Dads and Granddads, Uncles and more!  Be a positive influence at the school on your schedule. 
  • Come early and participate in intramurals - basketball, kickball, etc.  Starts at 8:15 a.m.  Dates TBA
  • Participate in the Endangered Species Club with Dr. Joe Lombardi and be a strong, positive role model for the young men of our school.
  • Various other opportunities TBA
